DN Galan Big Shot

Big Shot – from Stockholm Olympic Stadium to City Centre

DN Galan added 2008 yet another innovation to the family of DN Galan Events. With an aim to bring athletics from the arena and out to the people, DN Galan took Shot Put to Kungsträdgården, downtown Stockholm. A complete shot put arena was built up in front o the permanent stage, stands and sponsor areas added. The international shot put elite participated and the competition was framed by music, show and entertainment in true DN Galan spirit. DN Galan Big Shot was born!

In 2009 the concept was improved both in arena construction and spectators. The stands and surrounding fens was packed with people and at its peak – Elite men’s competition had around 1000 people watching. It became one of the best shot put competitions in 2009. Big Shot was won by the Olympic Champion Tomas Majewski that produced a Polish record with 21.95.

On August 5 it will be even more upgraded when the men’s DN Galan Big Shot is part of the new Diamond League series and most of the world’s best throwers will take part in the hunt for the diamond. Even the other elements will be of top quality – everything from Youth Shot to the international women’s competition. The VIP area will be improved and there will press, media and the VIP elite of athletics warming up for the DN Galan Diamond League at the Olympic Stadium the day after.

As in previous years another shot put arena will be build adjacent where the general public can try their shot put skills against friends, celebrities or just against themselves.
